The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is a national and international centre of excellence for research on IVET and CVET and the progressive development of VET. Its research, development and advisory work is aimed at identifying future tasks of vocational education and training, promoting innovations in national and international VET and developing new, practice oriented solutions for initial and continuing VET. BIBB was founded in 1970 and is supervised on points of law by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Its present statutory basis is the Vocational Training Act of 23 March 2005 which outlines the Institute´s duties. The work done by the institute currently revolves around five focal areas:
- The training place market and the employment system
- Updating vocational training and improving the quality of vocational training
- Lifelong learning, permeability and the equivalence of training paths
- Vocational training for specific
